[Shenzhen, Hong Kong, June 30, 2022] Shenzhen Jieyang Microelectronics Co., Ltd. ("Jieyang Micro", "GiantSemi") released an ultra-wideband (UWB) system-on-chip (SoC), model GT1000. The chip successfully passed the certification of the FiRa Alliance and obtained the certification in June 2022. FiRa Alliance certification includes physical layer conformance test, media access control layer conformance test and interconnection test. Jieyang Microelectronics has become the first chip company in China and the first in the world to pass the FiRa Alliance certification. The GT1000 has already started mass production in May 2022 and will start mass shipments in September 2022.

UWB industry benchmark! China's first UWB chip certified by the FiRa Alliance

GT1000 is a full-featured, fully-integrated UWB system-on-chip, including RF, analog, baseband, protocol, software and embedded MCU. Its main functions and performance are as follows:

● Support the latest IEEE802.15.4, 802.15.4z and FiRa standards

● Single-chip one-transmit three-receive (1T3R) architecture, supporting 2D and 3D AoA (angle of arrival)

● Support 4.0 ~ 9.0GHz frequency range

● Support multiple standard communication rates 31.2Mbps, 27.2Mbps, 7.8Mbps, 6.8Mbps and 850Kbps

● Integrated MCU, the main frequency is up to 124.8MHz, with abundant SRAM and Flash resources

● Integrated protocol and software, no need to run the protocol or software on an external processor

● Rich interface SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO

● Support unilateral and bilateral bidirectional ranging based on time of flight (ToF); support AoA measurement; support time difference of arrival (TDoA) measurement

● Receive sensitivity -94dBm@6.8Mbps, -103dBm@850Kbps

● The ranging accuracy is ±6 cm, and the AoA measurement accuracy is ±3 degrees

GT1000 achieves extremely low power consumption, the peak receiving power consumption is only 71mW, the peak transmitting power consumption is only 37mW, and the deep sleep mode current is only 0.8μA. Compared with the current UWB solutions on the market, the power consumption of GT1000 has been greatly reduced, which is very beneficial to UWB terminal products powered by batteries. Since the maximum communication rate of UWB is nearly 16 times that of Bluetooth low energy consumption, the power consumption of GT1000 is already at a level comparable to or even lower than that of Bluetooth low energy consumption in terms of power consumption per Mbps.

GT1000 adopts a single-chip one-transmit-three-receive transceiver architecture, which is very beneficial to realize a low-cost 3D AoA solution. UWB solutions currently on the market may require the use of two UWB chips or complex RF front-end components (such as RF switches) to achieve 3D AoA. GT1000 can support 3D AoA on a single chip, and the RF front-end components are very simple, which greatly reduces the cost of BoM.

UWB provides a highly reliable, safe, accurate, fast and energy-efficient ranging and positioning capability. Its ranging and positioning do not depend on any external infrastructure, and can be used outdoors or indoors. At the same time, UWB also provides a wireless connection with a configurable communication rate. UWB is playing an increasingly important role in ubiquitous application scenarios such as mobile phones, wearable devices, smart homes, tags, locators, digital keys, smart access control, payment, industrial and commercial indoor positioning, and smart cities. UWB is providing convenience, comfort and efficiency for personal life, industrial and commercial activities around the world.

Ferry Smart UWB focuses on the Internet of Things, and the technology is mature and reliable. It is widely used in watches, bracelets, mobile phones, VR/AR, headsets, anti-lost tracking, door locks, automatic driving, car digital keys, robots, remote parking, unmanned Machines, wearable devices, smart poles, parking lots, warehousing logistics, petrochemicals and other fields.
